I am sure you saw the news the other day. A very weird thing has happened. Microsoft has purchased Skype for 5.xx billion dollars. You may hear that Skype is not really worth it, and you may be right. But im betting the reason Microsoft inked the deal had less to do with its profitability, and more to due with brand recognition.
OK, here is my theory on why they did this.
No its not because they want to kill Skype ( i know you conspiracy theorists are going to hate me )
I believe that Microsoft wants to launch Skype service on Xbox Live and allow telephony integration and grant skypeout and skypein features to Xbox live users and do something interesting. possibly a replacement home phone service. i mean they have already announced they intend to release tv stations via the Xbox, so its not much of a stretch.
it makes sense to me. anyone care to comment on this thought?
