Thailand Flooding leads to hard drive shortages, some say will last into 2012!

Ok, kudos to Western Digital for closing the Thailand operations to make sure the employee’s are safe, and Kudo’s to Thailand for announcing a 5 day holiday to give folks a chance to get to safety,

Here is the story about how this will create Hard Drive shortages here in the US:

(ZDNET)

Floods in Thailand have rattled the hard drive supply chain from component suppliers to giants like Western Digital and ultimately PC and server makers will be affected, say analysts. Thailand’s disaster has shut down 14,000 factories, flooded hundreds of thousands of homes and put more than 660,000 out of work.

apparently 60% of Western Digital’s drives are made in Thailand.

Here is the story on Thailand giving people a 5 day holiday:

(Reuters) – Thailand announced a five-day holiday on Tuesday to give people the chance to escape floods closing in on Bangkok as the prime minister warned that the capital could face an inundation of 1.5 meters (nearly five feet) of water if barriers collapsed.
