My favorite snippet from the article states “”The problem was they didn’t have just one laser, they had something like 370 lasers, which is an incredibly expensive thing. If you can imagine 370 lasers, they fill racks and consume several kilowatts of power.” That is some serious power. and some serious transfer rate, I’m guessing we will be needing it if we keep demanding more and more on our broadband. and no one wants a slow connection. FIOS even seems slow to some.
