Amazon looks to be releasing an updated version of the Kindle Fire with better resolution, going from 1024×600 to 1280×800. This means 720p HD content can be displayed. In addition to the exiting model getting a better screen, They are releasing a 8.9″, with a full HD (1920×1080) display. This would have a pixel density of around 250ppi, just below the new iPad’s. The new 7″ one would be ~215ppi, and the current device (among others) sits around 170ppi. I can’t find any details on the price point of the new tablet. I’m sure they will compete on price, so i would guess you should expect a price around $299.

This Tablet no doubt will continue the tradition of being well built, low cost and great battery life. I look forward to picking one up when they come out and getting feedback from Digital Physician’s user base to see how they feel about the larger display.
